An incident occurred recently where four bombs were dropped on the largest undersea natural structure in the world, the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Australia. The fighters were supposed to drop the bombs on a nearby island as part of a training exercise, but there was an issue and the fighters were required to retreat due to the area not being clear of hazards. They were low on fuel and were unable to land whilst loaded with bombs. This meant that they had to discharge them and they were over the Great Barrier Reef at the time. It is important to note that none of the bombs exploded and they were aimed at the best possible way to not cause damage to the reef. Environmentalists have said that this incident proves the US can not be trusted to protect the environment.
