Many negative reactions have been leveled at Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox One due to the high price tag, and revelations regarding lack of backwards compatibility and the fact that the Kinect device will always be on and connected to the internet. Sony on the other hand has received a lot of praise for its rival to the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4.

In comparison to the Xbox One, the PS4 will not require an always on internet connection, will support users who share games, and will have a much cheaper price tag. These announcements came at E3 2013 and it was imperative for Sony to deliver. Xbox One may have a number of criticisms directed at it from gamers but Microsoft still had a strong showing at E3 with many great games shown off. Millions of people will still buy the Xbox One despite its drawbacks so Sony had to deliver.

Sony has managed to portray itself as the good guys with their apparent commitment to games developers and independent game developing. At E3 Sony talked briefly about the PS4′s film, music and TV content focused much more on the PS4′s gaming capabilities with many impressive titles shown and announced.

It was a real PR victory for Sony when it was announced that Disc-based games would not need to be authenticated online, and that the PS4 supports used games. To close Sony’s show at E3 a genuine shock announcement was made that could really help win the war against Microsoft. The PS4 will be released in November at $399 and £349 - $100 or £80 cheaper than the Xbox One’s suggested RRP.
