What exactly is LTE?
LTE, which stands for Long Term Evolution, is simply what the future of networks has in store for us. Nowadays, most of the people all over the world are constantly using the new modern gadgets which allow them to stay connected to the Internet all the time. Whether it is a touchpad, a smartphone, a laptop or some other device that supports a wireless connection – we all use them and such devices really make our lives much easier. At first, it was a connection with cables, and then it started being wireless while the devices were big and heavy, but now they are light and can easily fit in your pocket. The world of technologies has advanced really much, and the way the network providers supply their customers with the so desired wireless connection has evolved too. In the past few years, a very fast way to connect your device to the Internet started being quite popular and very used. This wireless method that the carriers were and still are using is called 3G. However, as time passes, the demands of the customers are constantly rising and in order to live up to the expectations, new and more advanced methods are being invented. A few years ago we probably thought wireless networks to be something impossible, but time passed, and people could no longer be limited by cables which led to the creation of this connection type.
LTE is currently the fastest way to be connected to the Internet and nowadays there are many carriers that are offering this kind of service. The 3G network was quite improved and now LTE is a quite efficient and smooth transition of the networks to a technology which has faster speed and bigger capacity than the wireless data networks known up to date. Long Term Evolution is also something that is used to make a reference to a mobile network or wireless broadband technologies.
When we are talking about Long Term Evolution you should also be familiar with the acronym 3GPP, which stands for 3rd Generation Partnership Project. You can also come across the term 3GPP Long Term Evolution, which is basically the same as LTE. 3GPP is the project that is developing this new way of networking and is trademark of the European Institute for Telecommunications Standards. Long Term Evolution can also be referred to as LTE Super 4G and 3G. This method of network connection is what years of experiments and research gave birth to and is the fastest at the moment. Here are some of its specifications:
- A completely new level of quality service;
- Much higher rates of download and upload (300 mbps dl and 75 mbps ul);
- An expanded capacity of the cell which currently can support up to 200 active users;
- Support of mobile phones that are moving fast.
3G networks used to provide us with a pretty reliable network connection; however, at times they can be a bit slow and unreliable in vehicles that move fast. LTE, on the other hand, is faster, supports more users and is tested and proven to work in a vehicle moving with speed of 110 kilometers per hour.
